CAROLINE ANDERSON

Performance Psychologist

Performance isn’t just about pushing harder, it’s about relating differently to pressure

ABOUT ME

I am a registered psychologist and help people develop the psychological skills needed to perform under pressure, without getting pulled off course by thoughts, emotions, or the weight of expectation. That includes attention, decision-making, and how people relate to discomfort, uncertainty, and internal noise. Rather than trying to eliminate stress or “fix” mindset, the focus is on building flexibility, being able to stay connected to what matters and execute when it counts. My work draws from my personal experince as an Olympian, performance psychology and neuroscience, but it’s always translated into practical, usable strategies. This is not about theory for its own sake, it’s about what actually works when the pressure is on.

WHAT I DO

I work in the space where performance and being human collide. My background is in performance psychology, including working with elite athletes and teams, but what’s shaped my approach most is seeing how often high performers override, control, or fight their internal experience in the pursuit of success. That works, until it doesn’t. I’m interested in what actually holds up under pressure, in competition, in leadership, and in the moments where fear, doubt, and expectation show up. My work sits at the intersection of evidence-based psychology and real-world performance, not just helping people perform better, but helping them do it in a way that’s sustainable and aligned with who they are.

HOW CAN I HELP YOU?

If you’re here, you’re likely already performing at a high level, or you’re operating in an environment where the stakes feel high. You might be finding that effort and capability aren’t the issue, but something shifts under pressure. Overthinking, self-doubt, or the constant push to be “on” can start to interfere with how you show up. I can help you understand what’s happening in those moments and build the skills to respond differently, not by removing pressure, but by changing how you work with it. The goal isn’t to feel perfect before you perform, it’s to be able to perform with whatever shows up, and to do it in a way that you can sustain over time.

I consult to individuals, teams and organisations through partnerships and collaborative programs designed to support performance, wellbeing and sustainable success.

My work includes:

  • Ongoing partnerships with sporting organisations, schools, businesses and leadership teams

  • 1:1 consulting and psychological support

  • Team workshops and presentations

  • Leadership and staff development programs

  • High performance and wellbeing education

  • Group facilitation and reflective practice sessions

  • Keynotes

My Experience

I am a registered psychologist and the Director of Performance Edge Psychology, with two decades of experience working across high-performance sport and clinical settings. I have worked with organisations including professional sports, sporting institutions, and the corporate sector. Currently, I work at the Melbourne Mavericks, the Victorian Institute of Sport and the Australian Institute of Sport (Mental Health Referral Network).  I am an external provider to the AFL Players Association, the Australian Cricketers' Association and the Professional Footballers Association.  I was the Lead Psychologist for the Australian Olympic Team at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Earlier in my career, I worked in acute mental health settings within hospital environments, which continues to inform my approach to supporting individuals across both performance and wellbeing contexts. In 2004 I competed at the Athens Olympics Games placing 11th in the world.
